Item #3 – Hold a Tea Party
40 Things for 40 Years in 40 Weeks: Item #3 (Be a Kid Again) – Hold a Tea Party
My bestie had the most amazing play house when we were kids. We would have “tea” out there which usually consisted of her mom bringing out Pepsi in a tea pot and a plate of Oreo cookies. I loved playing with her in that play house but the fact that it came with sugary treats was a HUGE bonus.
When it came time to redo our backyard last year, we had a hill that had been previously useless and unusable. It had a bunch of plants from the previous owners and the only purpose they served were as hiding places for the Million Dollar Pug when she was feeling naughty. I wanted to make use of the space and also get the boys out there more often. In addition to adding stairs with my amazing outdoor contractor to get to the top of the hill, I found a second contractor that builds play houses for kids and we ultimately designed the rest of space around “the cottage on the lake.”
Almost 17 months have passed now since we started and it has included several phases of demo, digging, building, planting, painting, and decorating. The backyard project is (mostly) done but the playhouse was officially completed (to my standards anyway) last month. There will be more to post about the entire backyard project soon…
But when I found out that my bestie and her family were coming last month – I knew it was time to officially christen the play house since it all started with hers and do it right – with a “tea party.” I broke out the Pepsi and the Oreos and amidst our four young children chaotically running around, she and I did a quick toast. It wasn’t high tea but it was the cherry on top for me.
And so that completes #3 on my list. 6 items checked off the list and 34 to go! Stay tuned for more… #40for40in40
