Item #10 – Go on a Girls Weekend
40 Things for 40 Years in 40 Weeks: Item #10 (Bucket List) – Go on a Girls Weekend
As we “grow up,” get married, have children, take care of our parents and get busy with our careers – I find that it becomes more and more important to hit the pause button on my every day routine and connect with my girlfriends. There’s something unique about just having girl time. It feeds your soul in some in-explainable way. So in an effort to feed my own soul and recharge I most definitely put Go on a Girls Weekend on my #40for40in40 list.
This year I was able to see several of my friends turn 40 at various events but they were all quick trips and sometimes part of other missions that I needed to complete as a part of family business. There was one friend that I had never traveled with but spent many hours with in what seems like a lifetime ago and so she and I decided we would have an adventure together as we both turned 40 this year.
I met Michelle in the Fall of 2001 when I was transferred offices with my employer and was pursuing my new found passion – Event Management. I liked Michelle immediately when I met her and we quickly became fast friends but we also became an unstoppable dynamic duo in our department. We were amazing work partners and loved running the department together and although we only worked together for a few years before I moved on… we have continued to stay in touch and be a part of one anothers lives for 16 years now.
Michelle is one of those people that I feel like I have known forever and she’s been there for so many milestones in my life. Maybe it’s because we both grew up in the same rural area or maybe because we are both one of three sisters but we just get each other and are bonded in so many ways. We’ve been a part each others weddings, baby showers and even visited one another with our families now that we are two states apart.
Michelle had never been to Portland and it is one of my favorite cities so we decided to meet there last weekend. We had a packed 48 hours of getting massages, going to the movies, shopping, getting makeovers, several meals out (sans kids!), relaxing, enjoying a fabulous hotel, walking around the city, talking, talking, talking and most importantly LAUGHING. After 16 years, not much has both changed and I know that we will be friends forever… after all who else will understand and appreciate our OCD organization like we do for each other?
Thank you to our wonderful husbands who manned the forts while we were away. Unfortunately, we had so much fun that we are already planning the next weekend together.
And so that completes #10 on my list. 13 items checked off the list and 27 to go! Stay tuned for more… #40for40in40
